Ξέρω, θα μπορούσα να διαλέξω ένα φραστικό λάθος, αλλά επειδή είμαι μουνί, διαλέγω το γραμματικό. :003:

As concern, the structure of some phrases, I have to mention that is common in USA to speak with out grammatical rules. An important example is the phrase: How are you ? We ask for that moment ,We need an answer which shows a constantly act ,so the correct is: How are you doing ? .To sum up,nothing is wrong .Most of us have the English language as second language. Imagine, how difficult would be to transform greek language According to english grammatical phenoms .
The fact that.....
I would like....
I would apreciate...
We learn to support our positions and desires with learning formal English phrases.
We learn to be gentle.

If I wasn't studying mathematics, I'm not sure if I would be able to study another subject in english university. Last May I had to make a presentation and my hands were shaking. Fortunately the topic was about ecology (project in matlab and latex). This year I have to write 4000 words (2000 words on each essay) and make a presentation to a completely different subject: artificial intelligence. Next year I have to prepare the big project in mathematics with 10000 words and i feel like i'm going to die Oresti mou.
Hold my hand. We'll go through it together. :)

My dissertation came up to 20.000 words (it was supposed to be half of that) . I had fallen behind schedule and had to write it all in two weeks. I remember chain smoking and chain eating chocolate waffers while typing on the pc for hours upon hours. I'd advise you to never do the same. I got a 60/100 grade which was OK considering the difficulties - the worst of which not being the tight schedule but my asshole roomates.

The good thing about math projects is that most of what you write has to be factual; You start with a figure or a bunch of equations, then explain what they mean. Or so I guess anyway. Try to get a hold of some past essays that got more than 70/100 so you can pinpoint what makes a good essay good or look online for similar advise. Once you have a general framework and as long as you know your subject well, the fingers seem to do the write-up all by themselves.

Or is it the presentation that most worries you? I actually have fantasies of doing a presentation before an audience, and charming everyone, the ladies especially :D , with my british diction, and mastery of the subject. I'm not sure when these fantasies started, but I do recall "flexing" my recitation skills during english class at the IEK I went to a bajilion years ago. I would deepen my voice and read the texts out loud as if they were a poem or the intro to an epic metal song.
Fun times, and I guess I'm still trying to relive them. Maybe I should sign up for more classes afterall. :p2:

AI is so interesting! You make me envious! Are you up to the mark with your eigenvectors? :wink
Oresti mou, thanks for sharing your experience and your thoughts with me. I appreciate that. :)

I am an advanced entry student, so my schedule has more lessons than other students, and this means that I have more pressure. But that's not a big problem. The real problem is that I have anxiety disorder (which is light at this time, but I still have it :p) and it's very difficult for me to speak in public. When I was studying physics, I had the choice to NOT take a presentation and not write an essay. The other choice was more difficult (to take 3 very difficult lessons) but I swear that I would take the second choice... When I learnt that I don't have any choice in this university, I was panicked. Last year it was ok because I was with my 2 classmates and we had to make a presentation together with only 2 professors in the class. This time I have to make it alone, with 50 people in the class... That is because we had to took a lesson with the computing and engineering students (study & research skills - academic writing). Anyway, I don't know if everything will be ok but I will really try for it.

I choose statistics pathway in mathematics (and not the general one) and I always thought (I think this is acceptable) that before you had your degree diploma, it would be very good if you have your own "work" and a mini research to provide to the jobs you are interested in or to help you to continue your studies in the field you have chosen. I only did 2 lessons in statistics and now I have another 3. It's not only about equations or eigenvectors (i love linear algebra :hebit: ). You can't do any statistics if you don't have data. I choose this path because, in general, it gives you more opportunities and it's more practical. You can choose a more theoretical topic of course, but then your whole essay must be full of equations and words and this would be more difficult. I hate economics, business, logistics and all this kind of stuffs, so I decided to choose a topic which is related to a research in pharmacies. The problem is at any topic/subject I have to choose, where can I find the data? I must run outside and ask and talk and I don't know if I have the right to do that. I don't know how to explain it. Maybe it's because I don't actually have enough knowledge and this moment I make google searches about the topic to find something similar to help me to decide or how am i going to proceed.

I found this pdf which is not an essay

https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/caf9/8 ... 014bac.pdf

but you can see the tables which comes from a data.

I am very worried and anxious this moment but I think that when I speak with my teachers they will help me to choose and how to construct it.

You have plenty of time little Casper. Don't worry so much. :e045:
I'm sure your teachers will explain to you how to gather data. We were in a similar situation when we had to provide questionnaires to potential users of our software. Our supervisor suggested we bribe them with cigarettes to fill out the questionnaire. That was funny cause it was like she was talking about street bums.
In the end we agreed with her to mock the data but that probably is not gonna fly with your teachers. :P

Is it possible to get the data you want online? If you google "free data sets" it'll give you a bunch of options. You can also spam forums with requests to fill out an online questionnaire for research purposes.

If you can't do it online then you'll either have to make phone calls or visit businesses and say hello we are doing a survey, could you spare 5 minutes to answer some questions? It's easier if you do it with a friend and she doesn't even have to be a student. There are also professionals who do this work for a living. They stop me at Ermou some times or call my number. I always want to ask where the fuck they got my phone number, but I just say no thank you and hang up. They're not too expensive to hire, but that's probably going too far.

Don't be afraid to ask your teachers as many questions as you want. Also do have a look around reddit, stackexchange and other specialised forums where people in your field might gather. Maybe even someone here could help. O poet, did you have to do any data gathering back in glorious Portsmouth?

As for the presentation, I'm sure there's a trick or two to make the crowd disappear. Afterall what's the difference between one person watching you disapprovingly, or a hundred, or a million? Try thinking about it like that, and if that's not comforting, we'll try something else. :)

I read your words and I'm feeling very relaxed, I swear :P You have the talent to make people feel better. I will not say lots of things this time because you are right in everything you said, but I wanted to tell you that I'm feeling better. I will go for jogging and tomorrow I will start the 1st essay for this year since I'm not full this week and I have a little time for searching and some writing. Our teacher gave us extra time (for advanced students) and the deadline will be after Christmas for us (and not before), but since i'm an ocd person, I want to finish it before and study another things during xmas holidays. :P

For the next year I have a whole summer to think about my topic and how to collect the data and i'll check again everything you mentioned. Thanks for your words/advises and the courage :
