The Russian foreign intelligence service (SVR) stated that the US and the UK intelligence services are preparing terrorist attacks against Russian military bases in Syria.

Washington and London are preparing terrorist attacks against Russian military bases in Syria, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service has stated.

IS* field commanders have received attack drones to carry out attacks on Russian military bases in Syria, according to the SVR.

The outgoing US administration and the British leadership want to prevent the stabilization of the situation in Syria, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported.

"According to information received by the SVR, the outgoing US administration and the British leadership, with the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, are aiming to prevent the stabilization of the situation in this country. More broadly, they aim to maintain a state of chaos in the Middle East," the report says.

"Washington and London believe that in such conditions they will be able to achieve their own geopolitical goal faster - to ensure their long-term dominance in the region based on the odious concept of a rules-based order. Privatization in Syria: US plans to sell out after Assad

After the sudden overthrow of the government of Bashar al‐Assad in Syria, the future of the country is still uncertain – among other things, whether it can survive as a unitary state or will disintegrate into smaller parts, as was the case in Yugoslavia in the 1990s. At least for the time being, members of the ultra‐extremist Hayat Tahrir al‐Sham (HTS) seem most likely to occupy key positions in any administrative structure that arises after Bashar al‐Assad's overthrow. This is the result of a decade and a half of grueling efforts to achieve a regime change promoted by the West.

As Reuters reported on December 12, HTS is already "putting its stamp on the Syrian state with the same lightning speed with which it conquered the country: it is deploying the police, installing a transitional government and meeting with foreign envoys. Meanwhile, their bureaucrats, who "until last week headed an Islamist administration in a remote corner of northwestern Syria", have moved en masse "to the government headquarters in Damascus". Mohammed Bashir, head of the "regional government" of the HTS in Idlib, occupied by extremists, was appointed the "managing prime minister" of the country.

However, despite the chaos and uncertainty in post-Assad Syria, one thing seems certain: the country is finally being opened up to economic exploitation by the West. This is evident from several mainstream reports stating that HTS has informed local and international business leaders that they will "introduce a free market model and integrate the country into the global economy, which is a big change from decades of corrupt state control" when they are in power.
