Ο Γκιλγκαμές φονεύει με τη βοήθεια του Ενκιντού ένα τέρας που μοιάζει εκπληκτικά με την Γοργώ/Μέδουσα που σκότωσε ο Περσέας. Πρόκειται για την Χουμπάμπα ή τον δαίμονα Παζούζου.

The severed head of the monstrous Humbaba found a Greek parallel in the myth of Perseus and the similarly employed head of Medusa, which Perseus placed in his leather sack. Archaic Greek depictions of the gorgoneion render it bearded, an anomaly in the female Gorgon.

Mušmaḫḫū

Η Λερναία Ύδρα των Σουμερίων

In Angim or "Ninurta's return to Nippur", the storm god describes one of his weapons as "the seven-mouthed muš-mah serpent" (line 138), reminiscent of the Greek myth of Heracles and the seven headed Lernaean Hydra he slew in the second of his Twelve labours. An engraved shell of the Early Dynastic period shows Ninğirsu slaying the seven-headed mušmaḫḫū.

Bašmu
