Lazy Lester.
“As one of the key creators of the South Louisiana swamp blues sound in the 1950s, Lester has been often imitated but never duplicated. Blues fans worldwide prize his early singles on the Excello label that were recorded in Lake Charles, Louisiana.”
“Born in 1933 and raised outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Lester was initially influenced by Jimmy Reed and Little Walter. But his entree into playing professionally came when he met Excello star Lightnin' Slim while riding on a bus sometime in the mid-1950s. The two became close friends, with Slim taking Lester under his wing.” - Alligator Records.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
(March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973).
Sister Rosetta Tharpe is known as the first guitar heroine of rock & roll. Her songs were both gospel and blues, but she played lead guitar like no one did of her time. Her guitar licks would mesmerize audiences just as much and her singing. She was the blueprint for future guitarists, both in blues, and then rock. Check out some of her live performances like “This Train,” “Up Above My Head,” “Trouble In Mind,” and “Didn’t It Rain.”

Mississippi Fred McDowell.
“I loved his sense of humour, and what I most got out of him was the passion that he played.
He used to just throw his head back and lift his knee up, take that slide guitar all the way up the neck. And I would just watch transfixed, because at that point, I had only heard records.
Then when I met Fred and got to see him live, I was just blown away by the power of one guy and a guitar to just hit so many emotions. I think I just fell in love with the blues as deeply as I ever was going to get with Mississippi Fred McDowell.” - Bonnie Raitt.

Robert Nighthawk.
“Robert Nighthawk was one of the Delta’s most famous blues artists during the 1940s and ‘50s, known for his radio broadcasts on KFFA in Helena, Arkansas, and WROX in Clarksdale, as well as for his recordings and his wide-ranging travels.”
“Nighthawk was famed for his cool, composed vocal style and his influential slide guitar sound, which he achieved by sliding a piece of brass pipe along the guitar frets. His best known records included “Annie Lee Blues,” “Black Angel Blues,” “The Moon is Rising,” and “Crying Won’t Help You.” B.B. King once named Nighthawk as one of his ten favorite guitarists. Nighthawk’s renown has spread internationally since his death in Helena on November 5, 1967. He was elected to the Blues Hall of Fame in 1983, and a powerful album released in 1980, Robert Nighthawk: Live on Maxwell Street 1964, was named one of the ten best rock ‘n’ roll albums of the year by critic Greil Marcus.” - Mississippi Blues Trail.

Henry Townsend.
"Born in Mississippi and raised in Cairo, Ill., Henry Townsend fled his abusive father on a boxcar to St. Louis at age 9. Unlike most of the blues musicians he played with during the 1930s, he never migrated to Chicago. He stayed here, recording on guitar and piano for nearly eight decades, from his first thick 78 record in 1929 till his death at age 96 in 2006. (He even had a MySpace profile.) He was nicknamed Mule for his sturdy build and nature, and he played with some of the most legendary characters in blues, including Walter Davis and J.D. Short. He received a posthumous Grammy Award in 2008 for his playing on Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen: Live in Dallas".

Howlin’ Wolf.
“I always make up songs about the way people live and how people act amongst themselves.
Ups and downs they have. Some people have ups and downs, and what caused these things.
A lot of people come out and sing but they don’t never put their sweetening into it.
You’ve got to tell the peoples why you’re singing this, and what causing this, and showing them what you’re singing. You’ve got to make your story clear to the peoples if you want to hand it to them. You’ve got to make a story now and make it stick. You’ve got to tell people just like it is.
How things go. You’ve got to make everything, every word tailored. Every word fits.”
