Και εδώ, στο 12.16 είναι η προσπάθειά του με τον υποτιθέμενο υποτιθέμενο τραυματισμό:It was 4 days before the competition and I was meant to lift at least 90 percent of my best numbers. In that session I managed to do 180/210 which I remember felt particularly light.
In the following days, me and my teammates started noticing a lot of worried looks amongst (Georgi) Ivanov (Iran Weightlifting Federation team coach) and the Iranian Federation officials. I asked them if anything was wrong but no one wanted to tell me anything.
The day before I was set to lift, I was mostly in my room and trying to cut around 1-2kg of bodyweight . Darab Riahi (Secretary of Iranian Weightlifting Federation) then came in my room and said let’s go to the competition venue. I was a little hesitant to go because the venue was 30-40km away from the Olympic village and I still needed to lose a few more kilos! But he convinced that it was urgent and I needed to come with him.
Obviously, I was worried so I kept asking him if there was anything wrong on the way to the venue. Riahi told me “Do you Remember the Ben Johnson incident? That’s what they’re (IWF) want to do with you”. We arrive at the venue and I see Ivanov coming over to me crying along with Ali Moradi (President of Iranian Weightlifting Federation). Mr. Moradi told me that I had to sacrifice myself, in order for my teammates to be able to compete at the Olympics. They (IWF) threatened to ban our whole team (by fabricating doping positives) if I competed in the games.
I initially didn’t understand the terms. I asked if they wanted me to come second. Mr. Moradi said that they have been talking with Tamas Ajan for the past few days begging him to atleast let me come on stage, let alone allow me to come second.
Later on I heard from people involved in these talks with Mr. Ajan, in which he demanded that I should only go on stage and fake an injury for that be the end of my competition. I ended up going and faking an elbow injury on stage (first snatch attempt). The whole team was tested prior to and on the day of our arrival to Sydney. There wasn’t any positives. There was a 4:1 ratio limit (testosterone : epitestosterone)that I went above twice in my doping tests but WADA later sent a letter to IWF assuring them that this was still within my natural production levels. I was considered an anomaly to the ratio limit in this instance by WADA.
IWF wanted money from us (Iranian Weightlifting Federation) for accepting WADA’s judgment. I heard that they did something similar the previous year with Alexsey Petrov in the 1999 world championships. It was held in Greece and I had surprised everyone and beaten Dimas already in the 85kg category. So they (Greece Weightlifting federation) paid USD 100,000 to IWF to make sure Petrov doesn’t medal and make it easier for Kakiasvilis (Greek lifter) to win in the 94kg category on home soil.
One of the Iranian Weightlifting federation officials told me “ Shahin, if we had USD 400,000 (to pay Tamas Ajan), you would have been allowed to lift and become an Olympic champion”
Pyross Dimas later won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal with a 390 kg total, the same total Shahin made both in the 1999 World Championship to beat Dimas, as well as 4 days prior to the 2000 Olympic Games 85kg session.
