Hydrogen is the dumbest, most ridiculous energy alternative. It is insanely far from being renewable with zero energy. It has the highest negative energy return of any alternative, because far more energy is used than you ever get back to split the hydrogen from natural gas or electrolyze it from water, compress or liquefy, construct incredibly expensive and short-lived steel containers and pipelines that won’t crack, and deliver to non-existent hydrogen vehicles. Fuel cell technology is far from commercial.

It’s also highly explosive. Hydrogen has a lower ignition energy than gasoline or natural gas, which means it can ignite more easily. Because hydrogen burns with a nearly invisible flame, special flame detectors are required. It requires 12 times less energy to ignite than gasoline vapor, so heat sources or the smallest of sparks can turn hydrogen into a bomb.

Nor can hydrogen replace fossil fuels in manufacturing which consumes over half of all fossil energy.
